Supervision Module

November 2025

Objectives:
This module sits within the Competent Person authorisation pathway and was converted from a face to face session into a digital format to reduce cost, remove trainer availability constraints, and support last minute mobilisation, including offshore deployment. Hosting on the LMS, with offline capability, ensured engineers could complete the training in low connectivity environments.

As the module contributes to formal authorisation under the OEG E.M.S.R, the content was refined with the SME to prioritise accuracy, clarify role boundaries, and present supervision expectations in a concise, practice focused format.

The modules purpose is to train engineers on the difference between immediate supervision and personal supervision.

Design approach:
The source material described supervisory responsibilities at a procedural level. I reworked this into scenario-driven interactions where learners reviewed typical site situations, determined appropriate supervision levels, and identified potential gaps in oversight. Decision-based feedback was used to emphasise accountability and reinforce the relationship between supervision and Safety Document control.

Storyline enabled controlled progression, layered feedback, and realistic role-based scenarios that aligned with the wider OEG pathway. Consistent visual characters and contextual prompts helped position supervision as an active responsibility rather than a passive requirement.

Outcome:
The module improved clarity around supervisory accountability and task oversight, supporting safer execution of work and clearer role boundaries between immediate supervision and personal supervision. It formed a key behavioural component of the OEG authorisation journey by reinforcing how supervision underpins safe work on the System. This project launched at the end of 2025, since then over 100 engineers have completed their authorisation and taken this module. Feedback from engineers has been exceptional.
