Crafting a Comprehensive BA Firefighter Training Manual
Objective:
The demand for a firefighter training manual in the BA sector prompted a collaborative effort, initiated by the head of BA. Prior to this, no such manual existed. Several meetings were convened to review existing content and structure the manual, which involved consolidating information from PDFs, old PowerPoints, websites, SharePoint, and various other sources within the service.
Challenges:
The primary challenge lay in the scattered nature of the information, but through effective teamwork during meetings, we successfully collated and organised it all. Additionally, we organised photoshoots for new PPE kits and captured training videos, all of which now feature in the booklet.
Approach:
To create a professional yet approachable manual, I opted for a combination of icons, photos, and illustrations. The team is now in the process of developing modules based on the book's content and style, to be hosted on Moodle.
Results:
This brand-new, all-encompassing manual, a collaborative effort involving the head of BA and two dedicated firefighters, serves as a vital resource, equipping firefighters with the technical knowledge in the vast field of BA. Designed for easy access in both printed and online formats, it has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the BA lead, opening doors to potential future projects.
