Working Person and Competent Person Authorisation

2023-2025

Task:

Following the successful LMS implementation project I lead for OEG HV Services, I was responsible for developing the digital modules used to authorise Working Persons and Competent Persons, replacing the previous face to face approach to reduce costs of an in person trainer. The programme required a distinct visual identity, including an illustrated character set where each role was represented by a specific colour defined with the SME.

Challenges:

The delivery timeline was tight given the number of modules, with senior leadership requesting rapid rollout while maintaining accuracy and consistency across the pathway.

Due to the tight timeline and other high priority ongoing projects I was heading up, I suggested bringing in another designer to support delivery. This was approved, and we worked together to keep the project on track and meet deadlines.

Outcomes: The outcome of this project was really positively received by our engineers, and management who appreciated the quick turnaround. The CEO of ONRG (now head of HV Services in OEG) mentioned the work was ‘industry leading’ and a ‘game changer’. We have won many clients from this work alone now. This project also meant our team was able to expand.

Approach:

I established the visual direction by adapting the existing company palette and introducing additional colours, including an electric orange, to differentiate roles. A modern illustrated character style was selected from iStock to ensure variety and scalability, then refined in Adobe Illustrator for consistency and reuse.

I produced a concept proposal for stakeholder review, which was approved, and progressed into module development. The first deliverable was the introduction video, where I drafted the script and collaborated with the SME to validate technical accuracy before build. Multiple modules were built, and quiz modules produced in Storyline 360.
